Empress Cim stood and observed as the last of this new country fell. It was a small country so it did not take more than a month for it to fall to her Empire. She had killed their ruler personally, as he had joined his people in battle just as she did. There were not as many casualties as in most countries, it was quite easy to subdue many without taking their lives.
She returned to the home of the former ruler as her military started to put into play her laws and the changes she was making, while this new part of the empire was being changed she would be staying where the former ruler did. The people were allowed to stay in their own home and those who had no home or their home was destroyed would have one built. Despite being fair and treating the people well, punishment for breaking her laws were often strict and in no way was anyone allowed to come in or leave without permission.
She received word that some citizens would be returning from travel or vacation and had guards bring all of them to her to be informed.

Cayle approached the border and stopped and picked up Avery "Cawle whats going on?" she asked as she rubbed her little eyes obviously getting sleepy "I dont know Avery now hush let me handle this." he put her on his back and walked up to the men "alright whats this? they obviously wouldn't have changed all this in the two months i was gone."
Avery poked her head over Cayle shoulder and being the sweet angel she was she giggled and waved at the guards "I wike does haws" (I like those hats lol)

"Perhaps not your former ruler, your new one has made changes and wish to see all of those returning to be informed, please step into the carriage, we will bring your horse as well." One of the border guards replied smoothly, a luxurious carriage door opened for them, for now they were the only two who had returned that had left.

he said nothing and didn't move an inch "one question, this isn't the type of ruler who leave children orphaned? makes them work?" he wouldn't enter the borders until they answered that question

"No, that would be too problematic and the people would dislike it and rise against her. However if they were orphaned in the takeover then they are still well taken care of until they are ready to take care of themselves." He responded simply. Such things would cause more problems than it would help.

"Such threats will not go well with the Empress so I suggest you keep such things to yourself when you see her." He responded as the carriage started to roll to the palace.
Cim looked at the large map hanging on the wall of the large study, marking where the new border was and where they would be moving next.

he snorted "a women took over my country, well guess that shows how they lost idiots see a women and they would tense up." he looked at Avery who was looking around out the window all excited obviously unaware of what has happened here

"She may be a woman, but she is the conquer of more land than any ruler in history and is not one to be trifled with. If you anger her, just make sure she does not touch you. And do not underestimate her for her appearance." The guard responded as the carriage door opened and they were led into the palace straight to the study where the Empress waited, in her own military uniform. Though despite being dressed for battle she was still incredibly beautiful with her long reddish pink hair pulled back into a braid that was held together with a metal ring that had spikes sticking out, to use as a weapon as well. Her red eyes were intense. A beautiful, but intimidating figure.

Cayle said not a word but little Avery peeked out from behind her brother and "your pretty!" she said moving to go over to her but Cayle quickly snatched his little sister up "hey bwother"

A corner of the empress' mouth twitched up into a small smile, "Thank you." She replied with a voice like velvet. "Welcome back. I hope you had a nice trip. Sorry to the rude awakening of finding that your country had been taken over, but most people's homes remained in tact and you are free to return to yours. However there will be changes that you are likely not use to."

he watched her carefully "and what changes would those be? as a high ranking member of the late kings army and very unhappy to come back to this i would like to know your plans for my home."
Avery squirmed out of her brothers arms and walked up to her "will you be my friend princess warrior lady?"
Cayle sighed "avery please this is not the time to make friends."

"I would not make a very good friend, I am often very busy, little miss." Cim said to Avery in a sweet tone that a child would not be able to identify as fake. "But if we see each other more we can try, for now how about you go to the next room and play with some of the toys there?"
"Most things that will me changing are for the better, no more homelessness, everyone being treated with general respect and so on and so forth." She continued, waving it off as if it didn't matter, to her it didn't.

Cayle put his hands on the table between them "i can see right through you so i'll let you know now if you do anything to jeopardize my sisters saftey i will be out of here and any of your little puny guards get in my way they wont live for two seconds more."

A cold smile crept onto the woman's face, "Which is why such things do not happen. I do not care for anyone besides a little for those in my military, even then they are expendable to me, they all know it too. But treating the people as if they were expendable causes problems that i do not want, so the people are protected and live comfortably and treated equally in the eyes of the law. It is tedious and annoying, but I would rather do it that way than have people try to revolt against me. There is no point in ruling people who are miserable. No harm will come to those who follow my laws. Follow my laws and you and your sister will be perfectly fine. But I do thank you for giving away the chink in your armor so quickly." She replied. "Here are a list of all the new laws, and the consequences for them. You may join my military if you wish, can even retain your rank after a few quick courses. If not you should quickly choose a different career path and you will be put on the road to pursuing it."

"You're very cocky aren't you? If you were here and faced me in battle then you would be dead, be lucky you were not here until now for your sister's sake. You will start in two weeks, that should give you enough time to get settled back in at home no? At the end of the second week you will report to the training facility, there my general will be waiting and take you, and all the others who are joining, through the courses to be fit for my military and be put back into your original ranks. In two months school will begin for the children, they are required to attend and must provide documentation on any medical conditions and, or disabilities. More information will be delivered to your home as well as new uniforms by the end of the week. The laws and curfews will be put into place and enforced by that time as well. You are free to leave unless you have any other questions or concerns." She explained in a no-nonsense tone while making marks on the map as she spoke.

"Hm. Your funeral." She muttered when they were gone. Once she had everything planned out for the new section added to the empire Cim headed out in casual clothes and changed her appearance. She hadn't lured any victims into her web in a long time and needed to do so soon. She took on her original appearance once she was outside of the palace and wandered around.

Cayle put his sister to bed then sat outside by a fire pit with a few of the other boys discussing what had just happened
"i'm not pleased either and it of course happened when i wasn't here." Cayle muttered tossing a stick into the fire
his friend Mason pat him on the back "oh come on man it's not your fault you weren't here, Avery wanted a vacation so you took her to the outlying beach country thats it."

Cim, now going by Alina, walked along through the streets with an innocent air about her as she looked around, pretending to be lost as she walked by the area. Night began to fall, usually the best time to find someone who would approach her.

Cayle looked up noticing her and got up walking over "excuse me miss but are you lost?" he said politely not going to cause trouble like most other guys by the fire "I know where she can go." one of the guys piped in and the others laughed until Cayle looked at them "you know better than to disrespect a young women." they all shut up and looked down
